DEFERMENT OF NEW STUDENTS
If you have received an offer for undergraduate degree study at Macquarie University through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) for First Half Year 2010 you can defer your place at Macquarie for one year.
This may be extended an additional year (a total of two years deferment) if you are eligible under the Government Youth Allowance (Independent Rate) workplace participation criteria. This requires that you have worked full-time (at least 30 hrs a week) for at least 18 months in the previous 2 years. We will require as evidence of this, a signed letter from your employer/s. Note: if this information is not received at the time of this request, you will be unable to extend.
To request this extension, you need to apply for a Variation to Deferment.
"Deferment" at Macquarie University is used ONLY in relation to people who have received an offer of a place at Macquarie through UAC, but choose to postpone commencing their studies. If you are a Current Macquarie Student and want to take time off between years of study please refer to our discontinue section.
Please note that Deferment is not available if you have received an offer for Second half-year enrolment. How do I apply for Deferment?
Step 1: Accept your offer on-line and retrieve your Macquarie University Student ID.
Step 2: Complete this form. This facility will be available 29 October 2009 until 31 March 2010.
Conditions of Deferment
- Deferment on this course offer will only be granted once unless you are eligible and request an extension under the Government Youth Allowance (Independent Rate) criteria.
- If during 2010 you undertake tertiary study (including TAFE Certificate IV and above or any other programs used by Macquarie for selection purposes), this deferment will lapse and your application for admission will be reappraised in the light of your complete education records. You will need to re-apply through UAC.
- Note: The University reserves the right to vary without notice any information relating to the provision of courses.
How will I be notified?
You will be notified of your deferment in writing after the 31st March 2010. If you do not receive written notification, please contact the Coursework Studies Section.
You are required to re-apply through UAC in August 2010 to activate your deferred place at Macquarie University.
