Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
For the first time and for entry in 2010, Macquarie University is offering non school leavers and mature age students an alternative way to get into Macquarie University. It’s called the STAT.
Who is it for?
This is specifically for students who are Non-current (2009) School Leavers who may not have completed or are not satisfied with their HSC or IB qualifications.
What is STAT?
The STAT is a method of admission for students whose UAI/ ATAR rank may not be sufficient gain an offer to Macquarie University. The Special Tertiary Admissions Test assesses your ability to understand the material given and to think critically about issues, rather than to test knowledge of curriculum or a specific academic subject.
The STAT results will provide additional information to Macquarie to enable us to assess your aptitude for university level studies and your potential for success.
Can anyone sit the STAT?
For semester 1, 2010 entry, STAT is available for:
-- non current (2009) school leavers and mature age applicants who may not have completed - or are not satisfied with - their Yr12/HSC/IB qualifications.
For 2010 entry , STAT is not available to international students.
What courses does it relate to?
For 2010 entry, STAT results will be considered for all Macquarie undergraduate degree courses.
How do I register to sit the STAT?
STEP 1: Apply to Macquarie University through UAC.
STEP 2: Through UAC also register to sit the STAT - www.uac.edu.au/stat
Ensure you register NOW as there are limited places, limited venues and you need to ensure your results will be included in the admission process for 2010.
When and where is STAT held?

Is there a cost?
Yes, you will need to pay your registration fee direct to UAC. This is part of the registration process.
How do I prepare for the test?
On registration, you will receive the STAT Candidate Information Booklet including some sample questions. You are encouraged to prepare for the test by familiarising yourself with information provided. You may also wish to participate in one of the STAT preparation workshops organised by UAC.

How will the decision be made on whether an offer to study at Macquarie is given?
STAT results will be included in a selection process which also considers your ATAR and any additional study.
When will I be advised if I have an offer?
Macquarie will align with the UAC main round offer process, and your offer will be advised at 9pm Wednesday 20 January 2010, through the UAC e-release of offer.
Can I defer my offer?
Yes, you are able to defer under the current Univerisity Policies. Click here for further information.
STAT Results
UAC will post your STAT result notice about three weeks after you sit the test/s. STAT results are reported as STAT scores, on a scale ranging from 100 to 200, and as a percentile rank, which indicates the percentage of candidates who obtained a STAT score less than your STAT score.
If you are a UAC applicant, you must include details of all your STAT sittings (both current and previous) on your application.
Macquarie is unable to provide any advise or information on the STAT results.
How can I ensure I have the best chance of selection to study at Macquarie?
Macquarie offers a number of entry pathways for mature age applicants including:
. Mature Age 'Jubilee Scheme'
. Non Award units from our Centre for Open Education
. TAFE Diploma or Advanced Diploma studies
. SIBT Diploma
Each of these have established criteria around the application and selection process and vary to ensure we offer a number of entry pathways for a range of circumstances.
