The New Curriculum and Internal Degree Transfer
The current undergraduate programs will cease to be offered to new and returning former Macquarie students at the end of 2009 and a new set of Programs of Study will be offered from 2010. For further information about the new curriculum click here or go to your Faculty website.
Applications for transition to the new curriculum in first half year closed on 29 January but applications for second half-year transition to the new curriculum will open in the middle of the year, at a date to be advised.
There are two kinds of transition to the new curriculum:
- Transitioning to the new curriculum version of your current course. Transition to the new 2010 curriculum version of your current course is automatically approved on request (there are no particular 'transition criteria').
- Transferring to a different course. Students who transfer to a different course will also transition to the new curriculum and be subject to its benefits and requirements.
It is important that students make themselves aware that the new curriculum courses may include additional requirements. All students should seek academic advice.
Students who choose to transition to the new curriculum are not permitted to return to an old program or qualify with an old program.
The credit point totals used for assessing course tranfers must be from units completed at Macquarie University or from units designated as Macquarie University units, e.g. designated credit from non-award or SIBT.
The GPA calculation includes Summer Course units however it does not include Macquarie Non Award units or Credit for Previous Studies from designated units undertaken at other institutions including SIBT.
Table 1 below outlines the new curriculum courses that are automatically approved on request from particular current courses.
Table 2 below outlines the requirements to transfer to a different course.

Course Transfer Policy
Internal degree transfer requirements will ordinarily include an aggregate number of credit points successfully completed and a required GPA. The credit points for the purpose of meeting transfer requirements must have been obtained from units undertaken at Macquarie University or from units designated as Macquarie University units e.g. designated credit from non-award or SIBT. The GPA for the purpose of meeting the transfer requirements is generated from Macquarie units undertaken as part of a degree program only i.e. non-award and SIBT are NOT considered in the calculation of GPA.
The following requirements apply for students transferring between North Ryde campus and Macquarie City Campus (MQC).
- Transfer to same degree: there are no requirements.
