DISCONTINUING STUDIES IN 2009
Current Students who have been enrolled at Macquarie University but are thinking of stopping (discontinuing) their studies for a semester, a year or several years will need to withdraw from all units as soon as possible via Change of Unit Enrolment.
Other than withdrawing from all your unit(s) prior to the relevant census dates you are not required to notify Macquarie University in any otherway. Please note the procedures to resume your studies.
If you do not have any recorded results at Macquarie University and you withdraw from all your units you will be regarded as not having been 'effectively enrolled' and will need to reapply as a fresh applicant for admission. You may choose to defer your position if you are eligible. (Recorded results include 'W' Withdrawn Grades)
Application To Resume Studies
The appropriate method for applying to resume your studies will depend on your particular circumstances and when you anticipate to resume your studies. The following categories should help you determine the appropriate procedure to resume your studies.
Category A - Students With Enrolled and Graded Units in 2009
If your record of enrolment in 2009 includes one or more units (in either semester) with a graded result (including a ‘W’ (withdrawn), you will be eligible to re-enrol via the web commencing in January 2010. Therefore, to resume your course in first half of 2010, all you need to do is undertake web re-enrolment in January 2010. Information will be posted on the Enrolment@Macquarie (http://www.student.mq.edu.au/enrol) website from early December 2009.
If you are eligible to re-enrol in 2009 but decide to delay your return until:
- Second Semester 2009 – you will need to apply on-line by 12 June 2009. For information on how to apply Click here.
- First Semester 2010 - you will need to apply on-line in August 2009.
Note: PMQ students applying for readmission in this category must not have attempted other tertiary study during the period in which they were to studying at Macquarie University. If tertiary study has been attempted during the interim, you should lodge an application through UAC (Universities Admissions Centre) – you will need to go to the UAC website www.uac.edu.au to apply by web.
Category B – Formal Withdrawal From All Units In First Year of Study
If 2009 is your first year of study at Macquarie University and you formally withdraw from ALL your units by the relevant Census date(s)
- First-Half Units - 31 March
- Full-Year Units – 30 April
- Second-Half Units – 31 August (For second semester enrolment only)
then you will be classified as having been Early Withdrawn from your program (i.e. not effectively enrolled at Macquarie University). Therefore, to return, you would need to submit a new application for the course you previously received an offer for. (UAC applications for second-half year are open until 12 June 2009. First-Half year 2010 applications will open in August 2009)
Category C – international Full-Fee Paying Students
If you are a full-fee paying International Student, you must contact the International Office at Macquarie University for advice on returning to your course. Phone (02) 9850 6320 or www.international.mq.edu.au or email iso@mq.edu.au.
