Application For Withdrawal Without Academic Penalty
Withdrawals from unit(s) of study after the last date for withdrawal without academic penalty, will result in a a FW (Fail Withdrawn) grade. If you consider that this discontinuance was due to “unavoidable disruption” to your studies, you may apply in writing to the Assistant Registrar of Coursework Studies Section for withdrawal without academic penalty- W status.
The University defines unavoidable disruption for the purpose of requesting withdrawal without academic penalty and/or financial liability as resulting from an event or circumstances that:
a) could not have reasonably been anticipated, avoided or guarded against by the student; and
b) were beyond the student’s control; and
c) caused substantial disruption to the student’s capacity for effective study and/or the completion of required work; and,
d) substantially interfered with the otherwise satisfactory fulfilment of unit program requirements.
You must submit the Application to Withdraw from Unit(s) without Academic and/or Financial Penalty to the Assistant Registrar outlining your case of unavoidable disruption (special circumstances). All withdrawal requests must be supported by documentary evidence (either original documents or copies certified by a Justice of the Peace). Please submit the application and supporting documents:
By Post To: Coursework Studies Section |
In Person To : Student Enquiry Service |

Once the Coursework Studies Section receives your application the requested units will be immediately withdrawn from your study package. In accordance with Census Date requirements, if the withdrawal was after the last date for discontinuance without academic penalty, you will be given a FW (Fail Withdrawn) grade.
It will take approximately 6 weeks for a determination to be made regarding your application to withdraw without academic penalty. If you are successful your Fail Withdrawn (FW) grade will be changed to a Withdrawn (W) status. You will be notified in writing of the decision.
Fees
If you are granted a 'W' (Withdrawn) or 'FW' (Fail Withdrawn) you remain liable for Student Contribution and/or consumption of Student Learning Entitlement (SLE) and/or FEE-HELP debt and/or fees. If you believe you withdrew because of 'special circumstances' you may apply for a refund and/or remission and/or recrediting.
