Discontinuing (Withdrawing) Units After Census Date - Fees

Commonwealth Supported Students

If you are a Commonwealth supported student and are granted a “W”, “FW” or "F" grade for a unit(s) of study, you will consume Student Learning Entitlement (SLE) and remain liable for the student contribution (HECS-HELP) for that unit(s).

In terms of the Higher Education Support Act 2003, you may apply to the University for a re-crediting of the SLE and a remission/refund of your HECS-HELP debt if you consider that your discontinuance from the unit(s) was due to “special circumstances”.

If you wish to do this, you should refer to the Guidelines for Applying for Re-Crediting of SLE and/or Remission/Refund in Special Circumstances and complete and lodge the form Application to Withdraw from Unit(s) without Academic and/or Financial Penalty which is also available from the Student Enquiry Service.

 

 

FEE-HELP Students

If you are a FEE-HELP student and are granted a “W”, "FW" or “F” grade for a unit(s) of study, you will use up your FEE-HELP balance and remain liable for the FEE-HELP debt for that unit(s).

In terms of the Higher Education Support Act 2003, you may apply to the University for a re-crediting of your FEE-HELP balance and a remission of your FEE-HELP debt if you consider that your discontinuance from the unit(s) was due to “special circumstances”.

If you wish to do this, you should refer to the Guidelines for Applying for Re-Crediting of SLE and/or Remission/Refund in Special Circumstances and complete and lodge the form Application to Withdraw from Unit(s) without Academic and/or Financial Penalty which is also available from the Student Enquiry Service.

 

 

Domestic Fee Paying Students


If you are a Domestic Fee Paying Student and are granted a “W”, "FW" or “F” grade for the unit(s) of study you may apply for a refund of fees if you consider that your discontinuance from the unit(s) was due to ‘special circumstances’.

If you wish to do this, you should refer to the Guidelines for Applying for Re-Crediting of SLE and/or Remission/Refund in Special Circumstances and complete and lodge the form Application to Withdraw from Unit(s) without Academic and/or Financial Penalty which is also available from the Student Enquiry Service.

 

 

Macquarie International Students 

If you are an international student and are granted a “W”, “FW” or "F" grade for a unit(s) of study, you may apply for a refund of your fees for that unit(s), if you consider that your discontinuance was due to ”exceptional circumstances”.
