Graduate Diploma of Women's Studies

Applications for Semester 1, 2009 are now open. On-time applications close on Tuesday 30 September 2008.

The Graduate Diploma in Women’s Studies is a program of study designed for both local and overseas students who have already completed a degree and wish to undertake a formal program of study in Women’s Studies. While this course is not vocational as such, it addresses questions immediate to everyday life, public policy and institutions, the workplace and others. The course will provide professional and intellectual development, particularly for those employed in governmental and non-governmental organisations, and in the cultural and communication industries.

Eligibility

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor degree or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution. Other tertiary qualifications together with relevant work experience may also be accepted, but such candidates must demonstrate the capacity to undertake graduate study.

Documentation Required

Macquarie University requires you to provide either an original official academic transcript, or a certified copy of the original with your application.  If you do not provide this information, your application will not be considered.

Documents can be certified at the Student Enquiry Service.  You are required to bring with you the original document(s) and photocopies of the document(s).  Documents may also be certified by a Justice of the Peace.If you have studied at Macquarie University previously, we will access your Macquarie University results directly.

 

Course Information

The course will be offered both full-time and part-time day or evening. The length of candidature is 1 - 2 years full-time or 2 - 4 years part-time.

To qualify for the Graduate Diploma in Women’s Studies a candidate must obtain an aggregate of at least 23 credit points, including at least 11 credit points in units with the code WST and 12 credit points at 300 level or above, including such units as have been prescribed by the Academic Senate on the recommendation of the designated Head of Division.

Prescribed units include WST 110, WST 210, WST 310 and 12 credit points from the coherent studies in Women’s Studies.

The majority of places in this program are Commonwealth supported places.  All units are Band 1.  Australian Citizens and holders of Australian Permanent Resident Humanitarian Visa’s may seek assistance via HECS-HELP. Non Commonwealth supported students will need to pay tuition fees.  Australian Citizens and holders of Australian Permanent Resident Humanitarian Visa’s may seek assistance via FEE-HELP.
