Scholarships Offered by Faculties and Departments
Macquarie University offers a wide range of scholarships for students who are completing their degree at Macquarie University.
In addition to the University scholarships that are listed in this brochure many faculties also provide scholarships for students. This list is representative of scholarships on offer in various faculties. Please contact the relevant faculty to discuss scholarship opportunities.
Biology Summer Research Experience Scholarships
These scholarships are available on academic merit to students enrolled in Biology undergraduate programs. The purpose of the scholarships is to provide project based work experience opportunities during the summer vacation.
The scholarships are valued at $275 per week for 2-10 weeks depending on the duration of the student's work experience project.

Chemistry Scholarship
This scholarship is available to students enrolling in the Bachelor of Science degree undertaking a coherent study in chemistry. The scholarship is valued at $1000 per year and is available for up to three years subject to satisfactory progress.

Doris Wallent Scholarship in Mathematics
One scholarship will be awarded for excellence in mathematics in the NSW/ACT Higher School Certificate to a first year student enrolled in the units MATH132 and MATH133 in 2008. Preference will be given to female candidates.

G L Melville Actuarial Studies Scholarship and the Laurie Schalchlin Memorial Actuarial Scholarship
These scholarships are available to students who are enrolled in or are intending to enrol in the Bachelor of Commerce—Actuarial Studies program or Combined Actuarial Studies program. They are available to both high school leavers and continuing Macquarie University students. Candidates must be permanent residents of Australia.
The scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, financial need and the personal circumstances of the applicant; they are tenable for one year and valued at $2500.
Applicants who already hold a scholarship or award, other than Youth Allowance, will only be eligible to receive the scholarship with the permission of the donor. These applicants may still apply, and should specify all the details of the scholarship or award held.

Le Fevre Scholarship in Chemistry
This scholarship is available to full-time students undertaking a Bachelor degree with a coherent study in chemistry. Scholarship recipients will be required to enrol in the following units during the period of the scholarship:
Year 1: CBMS101, CBMS103
Year 2: CBMS204, CBMS207, CBMS208
Year 3: At least 18 credit points of 300-level chemistry
including an approved combination of units as defined in
the Macquarie University Undergraduate Handbook.
The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit in the HSC. It is tenable for three years, subject to satisfactory progress, at the following rates: $2000 in the first year, $2100 in the second year and $2200 in the third year of the scholarship.
MJS Centre Scholarships for Japanese Studies Honours
The MJS Centre at Macquarie University offers scholarships for the promotion of sound high quality teaching and/or practice of Japanese Language and culture in the community. We invite applicants with a research interest in: 1) Japanese language and pedagogy; or 2) Japanese area study or study on cross-cultural issues ( eg. International relations, environmental science, economics, sociology/anthropology). Preference will be given to a research topic which is practical and can contribute directly to teaching development in the community. It is our hope that every effort our students make in understanding/exploring topics not previously studied will lead to better understanding between Australia and Japan.

Optus Engineering Scholarships
Optus is providing two scholarships for students enrolling into the Bachelor of Engineering at Macquarie University for 2009. These scholarships are worth $5000 per year for each of the four years throughout your degree.
As a part of this scholarship you will have the opportunity to undergo paid work with Optus for a minimum of 12 weeks through your degree, and will contribute to your work experience requirements which is a graduate requirement of Engineers Australia. Anyone applying to enrol in first year Engineering at Macquarie University in 2009 may apply for the Optus scholarship. The criteria for short listing will be based on a CV and letter of application followed by an interview with Optus staff. The scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis.

TressCox and Maddox Scholarship in Law
This scholarship is available to full-time students enrolled in the BA LLB, BCom LLB, BEc LLB, BScLLB, BAppFin LLB, BBA LLB or BMedia LLB degree programs. The scholarship is normally tenable for one year only and is valued at $2000.
