Macquarie Coursework Scholarships (Undergraduate programs including Honours)

Macquarie University Merit Scholar Program and Scholarship

For: Macquarie University offers all domestic students with a UAI of 98.5 or above (from 2008 secondary studies only*) priority access to a host of opportunities such as advanced programs, internships and international studies subject to academic performance.

The University also invites students from this group to apply for a Macquarie University Merit Scholarship. These scholarships are highly competitive and non-deferrable.

These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit. In addition the successful applicant should be able to display:

*Please note that students who have taken a 'Gap' Year in 2008 are also eligible to lodge an application. These students must have taken the HSC (or equivalent) in 2007 and have not undertaken any study in 2008.

Value

$12,000 per year for up to 5 years

Macquarie Education Costs Scholarship (MECS)

For: Students who have been hampered by disadvantages beyond their control.

All successful students will be able to demonstrate financial hardship (applicants need to be in receipt of Youth Allowance or any other means tested Commonwealth support).

Students can supplement their application by providing details regarding the following areas:

This equity based scholarship is designed to support recipients whose opportunities to study at university may have been hampered by situations out of their control.

These scholarships are available for any undergraduate course and you can apply at any stage of your course.

Value

$4414 per year for up to four years (value indexed each year). Students will have their ongoing eligibility assessed prior to each payment.

Applications will open for Second Semester in April 2009.

 

Macquarie Accommodation Scholarship (MAS)

For: This scholarship is designed to support recipients whose living situation may hamper their ability to study at Macquarie University and would benefit from relocation.

All successful students will be able to demonstrate financial hardship (applicants need to be in receipt of Youth Allowance or any other means tested Commonwealth support). And that they are relocating from a rural area to study at Macquarie University. Applicants who are relocating from one metropolitan area to another are eligible to apply.

Students can supplement their application by providing details regarding the following areas:

$8830 per annum for up to four years (value indexed each year). Students will have their ongoing eligibility assessed prior to each payment.

Applications will open for Second Semester in April 2009.

 

Macquarie Higher Study Scholarships (MAHS)

For: This scholarship is designed to enable recipients to continue their studies to an Honours level or postgraduate coursework program.

All successful students will be able to demonstrate financial hardship.

Students must be eligible to study at the Honours or postgraduate coursework level in a Commonwealth Supported place or tuition fee place (domestic students only). 

Students can supplement their application by providing details regarding the following areas:

Academic merit will also be considered.

Please note:

Priority will be given to students previously in receipt of MAS or MECS, or CAS or CECS, although students coming from another university or not previously in receipt of a scholarship can also apply

Value

Up to $8830 per annum for the normal duration of your program*. A pro rata amount might be available for approved part-time study. A full-time waiver would be considered for students who demonstrate they cannot study full-time due to (for example), sole parent responsibilities, carer responsibilities, long-term medical condition/disability or on going effects of abuse.

*For example, a student studying an Honours degree can receive the scholarship for 1 year of full time study. A recipient's on going eligibility criteria will be confirmed each semester prior to payment.

Applications will open for Second Semester in April 2009.

 

General Information

In most instances students cannot have more than one scholarship awarded to them. This is to provide financial assistance to as many students as possible.

Payment will be made to students AFTER the first four weeks of the first semester. Correspondence will NOT be sent to those students who are not successful in gaining a scholarship.
